Twice As Bright

A bright flame burns stronger
but casts darker shadows,
A dull flame burns longer
but hardly even glows.

To live is struggling to survive
shining with all one’s might
or in ease but barely alive
casting only a dim light.

Fire should strive for a glorious blaze;
in the end all will surely be embers,
better to live a few bright days
than more dark ones than can be remembered.
