Mending

There are times when it feels like our lives have shattered
and we think about all that we have lost.
It hurts because of how much those things once mattered
and how our care turned into cost.

But wear and tear come natural from use,
our most loved possessions are the most worn;
not wanting “to break it” is often an excuse
for leaving something forgotten.

We should not see our scars as something ugly
but as proof we had something to fight for.
The pain we felt fades into memory
but what we learned will stay with us forevermore.

When things break there is no reason to feel ashamed,
you just need to put them back together again.
It’s true that they will never be the same;
they will be more beautiful for having been broken.
