It had never before occurred to me
just how much the desert is like the sea.
While one may be wet and the other dry,
the two are known to play tricks on the eye
and while one may be flooded to the banks,
neither have a drop of water to drink.
The way the wind shapes desert dunes
is so similar to still waves on the ocean,
and the light on the sand of the seafloor
reflects those shifting sand dunes even more;
but now I wonder just how lost have I become
that I no longer see the difference between desert and ocean.
